PO DELTA AND VALLEYS OF COMACCHIO PARK

With its 60,000 hectares, the inter-regional Park of the Po Delta embraces highly interesting areas such as Pomposa, Comacchio and Sant’Apollinare in Classe. A flora that grows on a sandy soil and a fauna consisting of more than 250 species of birds such as the spatula, the coral gull, the pink gull, the sandwich tern, the tern of Ruppel or the beautiful pink flamingos, which spend time here during their long migratory journey. There are many points of interest to visit such as the Mesola Castle or Pomposa Abbey.

THE LAKES OF SUVIANA AND BRASIMONE REGIONAL PARK

The Regional Park of the Lakes of Suviana and Brasimone extends over 3,329 hectares in the municipalities of Camugnano, Castel di Casio and Castiglione dei Pepoli in the province of Bologna. Here there are two large basins built for hydroelectric purposes in the early-twentieth century. Among mixed oak, beech and conifer woods stands the spectacular sandstone front of the Cinghi delle Mogne. If you are lucky, you can hear the tapping of the great spotted woodpecker as it digs into the ancient trunks of the chestnut trees to be found here.

The Regional Park of Crinale Alta Val Parma and Val Cedra, also known as the Park of the 100 Lakes, is a typically mountainous area, covered with forests and beautiful stretches of water, where plants and animals include firs, yews, wolves, otters, deer, foxes, beech martens and the rare white-throated dipper. Inside the park is a network of Italian Alpine Club paths and many are the points of interest from which to start an excursion that is sure not to disappoint you!

From the Sillaro valley to Brisighella, in the Lamone valley, the hills of Romagna are crossed by a spectacular silver-grey chalk ridge, which gives the landscape a unique and unforgettable appearance. A natural environment where orchids grow majestically, among shrubs and bare rock, home to junipers and brooms.

A little further south of the Chalk Vein is the Herb Garden of Casola, the most important herb garden in Europe. Don’t forget to go into the many caves that distinguish this area, where you can meet bats or rare animals such as the European cave salamander.
